Our toddlers follow the same goals and objectives
as our infant room has. (See the infant link for the full list) Typically,
children enrolled in our toddler programs are between the ages
of one and three years old.
We also encourage a lot more self-help skills. In
the toddler one room the children learn to wash their own hands
for example but in the toddler two & three rooms we take it a step further
and introduce family style dining where the children attempt to serve
themselves (with an adult eye on them at all times) and the children
transition from sippy cups to small paper cups.
Some children begin to potty train in the toddler one
room. We typically see training in the toddler two & three or preschool
rooms. These major milestones are sometimes challenging for families,
sometimes more for mom and dad than the child. Our teachers have vast
experience both with actual training and we have a stockpile of related
articles. This expertise is something we enjoy sharing.
As always, this time is rich in social experiences from
negotiating whose turn is next to working out how to fit in with a group
of new friends. Children in our toddler program have the opportunity
to practice their new social skills over and over again with their peers
at Appleseeds.
